It was great to meet with Rich Barr who ran the London Marathon last month to raise vital funds for Derbyshire Carers Association (DCA). DCA is an incredible charity, providing support and resources to unpaid carers and their families to help in the challenging circumstances they face.
Many of these carers are young people who are trying their best to support a family member with a physical, mental health condition, disability, or addiction
.
Running the London Marathon is an amazing accomplishment, but Rich also managed to raise over £1300 for DCA. This funding will go towards helping unpaid carers with respite and with enjoying life outside of their caring responsibilities.
In my listening event last year, carers told me that they often feel invisible and unheard – I hope that Rich’s work has gone some way of shining a spotlight on their sacrifices they make for their loved ones.
I will soon hold another listening event for unpaid carers in Mid Derbyshire to find out what I can do to continue to support them.
