If you drive through Little Eaton, you can’t help noticing how poor the road conditions are.
Residents have told me that Eaton Bank from Makeney into Little Eaton is particularly poor, with damage across the whole road width. Drivers have to slow down to a crawl to avoid damaging their car’s suspension.
Side roads including Rigga Lane have also been neglected and trenches of potholes are starting to appear that are frustrating local residents trying to leave their homes.
Within Little Eaton, Duffield Road, particularly at the industrial estate, is also severely damaged, with potholes extending through the tarmac surface layer.
On the other side of the village on Alfreton Road, residents are concerned about potholes near the Jack O’Darley Bridge causing road safety issues with cars having to swerve to avoid them before the junction at Barley Close.
Each of these cases pose a direct safety risk and causes avoidable and costly damage to vehicles.
I have written to Derbyshire County Council asking them to fix these roads.
The Labour government has doubled road improvement funds to £7 billion at the latest budget, and has tied additional money to transparency and evidence that roads are being fixed. I want to see this money put to good use and these roads fixed.
