On Tuesday I chaired another meeting of the parliamentary group on UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The session focused on education and awareness, and what steps we can take to improve local community connection to world heritage sites.
We were joined by fantastic speakers from across the UK who shared their experience of delivering educational and cultural events and the benefits these events have on increasing awareness of local history and of the world heritage sites, improving community engagement and encouraging more people to visit.
That local education is fundamental to raising the awareness of the values and benefits of world heritages sites and these sites are perfectly placed to deliver an enriching educational experience. I look forward to working on this further over the coming months.
