For many people in rural communities, buses are a lifeline. Yet, it is common for these places not to be well served, lacking bus shelters, electronic signage, or they suffer from unpredictable bus cancellations.
I was in West Hallam and Breadsall earlier today to see how they are served by buses. Hallam Way doesn’t have electronic signage on some of its stops, so you wouldn’t know if the 59 bus was cancelled unless you were tracking it online. It also doesn’t have a bus shelter, so on days like today waiting in the rain is the only option if you must use the bus for an appointment.
However, there is an opportunity to change this. The Labour government has invested £2 billion for transport in the East Midlands, and Mayor Claire Ward will get to spend it.
Mayor Claire ran a survey to hear your thoughts on how this money should be spent. I hope to see some of this money used to improve transport infrastructure across Mid Derbyshire.
