Before Christmas, residents at Briar Close House in Borrowash were told that the sale of the care home had fallen through.

This is an exceptional care home that provides really good quality care to local people. I do not want the site to close, and adult social care to leave the town.

There is still a chance for Briar Close House to stay open. If private companies do not want to run these care homes, there are alternative options available. I have been asking both the Conservative and Reform county council to look into Sheff-care and not-for-profit models.

The Labour government boosted funding for local councils across the country, including Reform-run Derbyshire County Council. They will receive over an additional £160 million, which is a 22% increase from the last settlement. There is also £3.7 billion extra funding available for councils to fund adult social care.

Their new funding could help them save Briar Close House, the Ada Belfield care home, and the other day centres and care homes across Derbyshire.
