I was pleased to join Baroness Twycross, the Minister for Heritage, at an event marking the opening call for submissions for the UK Inventory of Living Heritage.
Last year on World Heritage Day, just before I started the APPG on Unesco World Heritage Sites, I updated you on what I wanted to achieve to promote local heritage in Derbyshire. One aspect of this was the opening for submissions for Living Heritage – a fantastic example of this in Mid Derbyshire is the well dressing displays in West Hallam.
As the Chair of the APPG on Unesco World Heritage Sites, I spend a lot of time focusing on tangible heritage. However, intangible heritage plays such an important role in the vast array of culture and heritage that bring shared enjoyment and that communities can celebrate.
If you would like to learn more about the inventory, you can do so here https://livingheritage.unesco.org.uk/ and please do let me know if you or your community would like to make a submission so that I can support the application process.
