It was great to celebrate Nuclear Week in parliament, and I hosted an event about Derby’s Rolls-Royce’s contribution to our country.
I am lucky to have Rolls-Royce’s Raynesway site in my Mid Derbyshire constituency. This is where they manufacture the nuclear propulsion systems, which are a central part of our continuous at sea deterrent for the last seven decades.
I was pleased that the Labour government sees Rolls-Royce as a central part of its industrial strategy – securing a bright future for Derby for decades.
Last January, Roll-Royce signed its biggest ever Military of Defence contract to bolster our nuclear submarine fleet.
Rolls-Royce were later selected to manufacture the UK’s first Small Modular Reactor – an advanced nuclear reactor that will boost our energy independence with green, cheap, and reliable energy.
Together, these decisions will create thousands of new high-skilled and local jobs, create security in a time of global uncertainty, and generate sovereign clean energy so we don’t have to depend on foreign fossil fuels.
