I was absolutely blown away on my return trip to Broomfield Hall, part of the Derby College Group.
This time I was given a tour of the facilities. For many of the students on this site, the outdoors is their classroom, and what an exciting and active learning environment it is!
Equine students have a centre purposed for them, with a range of beautiful horses and an arena where I saw students practising dressage.
They also have exotic and farm animals on site for their animal management courses. From snakes to fish, pigs and goats, there is a lot on offer. I even saw ants and meerkats!
On the horticulture side there’s a nursery, a number of fabulous gardens and a floristry centre. Courses are available for adults part time as well as for full time students.
Broomfield Hall has many links with the local community and holds a number of open days throughout the year. I would heartily recommend a visit. And for anyone drawn to a career working with plants or animals, it’s well worth a look.
