Last week, Park Medical Practice in Oakwood confirmed that it will close on March 31st. I am disappointed, but I understand that the building is no longer fit for purpose.
I have been working alongside Oakwood’s local councillors and my colleague, Catherine Atkinson MP, to raise residents’ concerns with the NHS. While Lister House Surgery is still open in Oakwood, it is struggling under pressure.
Some residents will have to go to Park Medical’s other practices in Borrowash or Chaddesden. These are quite a journey away for residents, especially those with mobility issues.
I am pleased that Arriva has now adjusted its bus timetable after calls by myself and the Oakwood councillors. This will ensure that there are public transport options available for Oakwood residents to commute to the Chaddesden surgery.
The Labour government’s mission is to bring our healthcare system into our neighbourhoods, and to free up vital space in hospitals. I will keep standing alongside Oakwood residents to ensure that they feel the benefits of the Labour government’s actions improving the health service.
