Rolls Royce selected to manufacture Small Modular Reactors

The government announced that Rolls-Royce SMR has been selected to deliver the UK’s first Small Modular Reactor – an advanced nuclear reactor that will boost our energy independence with green, cheap, and reliable energy.
Recognising the transformative potential of SMRs, the government has committed £2.5 billion to the manufacturing of SMRs. This will create 3,000 new good jobs – many of which will be in Mid Derbyshire.

By working alongside our growing solar and wind capacity, SMRs will provide a consistent and stable energy supply, helping power the nation. This investment marks an essential step towards reducing our reliance on the volatile international fossil fuel market, accelerating progress towards our net-zero targets, and driving economic growth through job creation.
