With the 80th Anniversary of VE Day coming soon, it was a pleasure to meet with Mike Madin from SSAFA.

From helping veterans find housing, to mental and physical health support, and working with veterans to find the welfare and benefits they are eligible for, SSAFA offers invaluable support to veterans and their families navigating life after service.

In Mid Derbyshire, you are more likely to come across a veteran than in many other communities, as we have one of the highest percentage concentrations across the East Midlands.

The new government is beginning to reverse the rot in military housing, bringing back 36,000 military homes into public ownership in their flagship Homes for Heroes scheme.

Veterans should not have to worry about falling into homelessness or living in poor accommodation after sacrificing so much for our country. I am proud that the new government is stepping up, alongside the amazing work done by organisations like SSAFA.
